If organizations use Software Assurance (SA) with these unlimited licenses, allowing them to migrate to the newest version of the software, they can only purchase SA through a program other than the Open License program in 2022. The announcement recommended moving to the open value program, which has an SA option for indeterminate licenses. Microsoft`s different types of licensing options are designed to help organizations of different sizes access Microsoft Office reliably and scalablely. Whether your organization is prepaid for licenses or needs a subscription-based license, there are many options to access the software you need. Many people think that the only way to buy Microsoft Office is to buy it from the physical or virtual shelf. Small business owners may not realize that you don`t need to buy hundreds of copies to qualify you for volume license discounts. Microsoft offers many programs that are flexible and affordable, starting with only 5 licenses. Microsoft open license and open value programs helps make software licensing more affordable, scalable and accessible. The enterprise agreement is designed for larger volumes and offers greater savings. Factors such as how many licenses you need, how much upfront capital you have to purchase licenses, and how long your software will last, will all determine the type of license that works best for you.

You will continue to have all rights and access to all indeterminate software licenses purchased through the Open License program. Cloud Providers Solution Partners Role Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners will be the partners that will offer permanent licenses after the end of the Open License program. Indeterminate licenses are unique and non-subscription licenses that do not expire. Currently, these changes apply only to trade agreements. We will announce our plans for other types of contracts in the coming months. The Microsoft Open License program was developed more than 20 years ago for small and medium-sized customers to purchase multiple indeterminate software licenses at a volume price. Microsoft is taking an important step in simplifying the license by introducing indeterminate software license purchases as part of the new business experience, as part of our Cloud Solutions Provider program for partners with an availability date in January 2021. Small and medium-sized customers benefit from a simplified approach and greater flexibility in purchasing software licenses in an easily understandable way, which directly improves the management of licensing assets and entails predictable costs.

Ask the partner from whom you are currently purchasing software licenses when it is sold under the Cloud Solution Provider program. If you don`t have or don`t intend to become a Solution Provider cloud partner, you can find a Microsoft partner. The Microsoft Open Value license is similar to the Open License, where you pay for the software and own it entirely after purchase. However, with the open value, the cost of the license is divided into three annual payments and you have the license thereafter. Software Assurance is included in the delivery. Unlike open License, open value prices do not depend on the type of organization. All Open License services, products and offers will be available until January 1, 2022.
