… the Character Cocktail

The idea for the Character Cocktail came, as many things do, out of a random conversation with friends. The topic was:

If you had a drink named after you, what would it be called?

Not long after, I went home and created my signature drink, the Snarky Little Tart. Now, this was back when I was a bar novice. I stuck to rum & Cokes, Kahlua & cream (or the stand-by Amaretto Sour), avoided vodka at all costs and didn’t know there were more than 3 or 4 types of rum. Still, the drink (well, shot) that I came up with was fraught with meaning and actually tasted pretty good. I even made a comic out of it.

Fast forward a few years and I was looking for a way to combine my artistic ideas with my growing passion for and knowledge of cocktail culture. The Character Cocktail was born, along with a more refined version of my drink, now known as the Snarky Tart.

… the Artist

Jennifer “Scraps” Walker has always been creative and had umpteen-million aptitude tests in high school make that absolutely clear. Still, a creative career didn’t seem very practical and practical was important to someone who grew up with very little. Time has a way of changing out perspective, though, and she learned that creativity does have a place in a grown-up life and can become a career if you’re willing to put in the work.

By day she’s the bookkeeper for a commercial print shop, by night she works on her comics, cookbook (putting that Culinary Degree to good use, finally) and various blogs. She completed the BarSmarts Advanced course online and strives to create a new drink each week over at her cocktail blog: Sips and Shots.
